Helping Students Be Successful,
One Subject At A Time!

Who is Sacha and What is Direct Tutoring?

i Saha and what is Direct Tutorect Tutoring?

My background
I have been teaching and learning all of my working life. It has been a lifelong passion for me to help struggling students reach high levels of success. In 1999, I started my first classroom teaching job in Oakland, California. I had a class of 45 middle school students who had been blindly promoted through school and couldn't read half of the words written on this page. By the end of my second year teaching, all of them were reading at a fifth grade level and three appeared on Disney Radio, featured for their success in learning to read for the first time as middle school students. They had skills and confidence in their reading.

When I first encountered middle school students who were five or more years behind in reading, I started doing research in innovative teaching methods. I started asking questions like, can a student improve by more than three grade levels in one year? Are there proven ways to quickly teach children to read, and to solve math problems? Can I effectively motivate children who have repeatedly experienced failure? I found that all answers to these questions were "yes"!

When I cracked the learning code, I realized that teaching really both an art and a science. For me, the art of teaching involves the motivational techniques I use to help children love learning and have confidence in their new abilities. On the science side, I am constantly reading and learning about the latest breakthroughs in teaching. I use proven practices and accelerate the learning of all my students.

I stick to one key principle: all children can learn and reach high levels of success. My goal is to help children who may have experienced challenges in school or in other settings. I believe that children are our future, and I want each and every child to be successful and confident.

I am always working to expand the limits of my knowledge and skills. For instance, I read educational research and other educational books voraciously. I also like to share what I have learned and give free talks and workshops to parents a few times each year.

How tutoring can help your family:

  • What if your child had the skills and confidence to read and solve complex math problems?
  • What if s/he could easily write essays and express his/her thoughts and opinions?

Your child can master these skills. I hope I can help your child gain confidence in reading, writing and mathematics.

At Direct Tutoring I work with students one-on-one. Having taught in a classroom with 30-45 students, I know the power of individualized teaching. I focus on students who will benefit from one-on-one tutoring. Students gain skills faster, build more confidence and enjoy learning when they are tutored one-on-one.
